Motor-cognitive interventions and their effects on cognitive functions and gait in chronic stroke

In this project (PhD project of Simone Huber under the supervision of Prof. Eling de Bruin) of the ETH Zurich (Motor Control & Learning Group) and the USZ (Research Teams Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy) a training concept is developed, which allows personalized progression and variability for motor-cognitive training in persons with chronic stroke over several weeks/months. Progressive and variable in this context means that the training challenge continuously adapts to the current abilities and preferences of the person training in order to achieve an optimal training load. Following the successful completion of a feasibility study (see publication), a randomized controlled clinical trial is currently being conducted in which the training concept will be used in addition to standard treatment. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of the additional training on health-related quality of life, cognitive abilities and gait in individuals with chronic stroke.
