Exergame-Driven High-Intensity Interval Training in Untrained Community Dwelling Older Adults: A Formative One Group Quasi-Experimental Feasibility Trial
The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on the Senso in untrained seniors. Twelve study participants performed HIIT on the Senso three times per week for four weeks, with one training session lasting an average of approximately 30 minutes. The training game "Rocket" was used for HIIT, and this was performed in 2-minute sessions (with heart rates of 70-90% HRmax) with 1-minute breaks in between. During the breaks, less intense training games were played (e.g., "Simple," "Flexi," "Simon," "Snake," etc.). The results showed excellent usability, very high training participation (91%) as well as high satisfaction and acceptance of this training by the seniors. No undesired events occurred. Furthermore, there was an improvement in maximum exercise capacity in a cardiovascular exercise test.
